“How the Texas Navy Saved the Revolution” A historical documentary garnered 5 prestigious Telly Awards for excellence in media production in the following categories:
Education: Silver Award
History: Silver Award
Documentary, Editing, and Use of Music each secured the Bronze Award
The 22-minute film highlights the importance of the Texas Navy victories that enabled General Sam Houston’s win at San Jacinto. It tells the story of a small, nearly forgotten fleet and unsung navy officers and crews that raided enemy ports, defeated enemy ships, prevented reinforcements from reaching Santa Anna and captured supplies that would then be used by the Texian Army to defeat General Santa Anna’s Mexican Army.
“How the Texas Navy Saved the Revolution” is featured in the recently opened “Lone Star Navy Exhibit” on the USS Lexington Museum on the Bay, a National Monument located in Corpus Christi, Texas. Along with Bill Turner (Executive Producer with the Texas Navy Association), Kahunas designed, and oversaw the installation of the 1000sf exhibit and theatre. The film can also be viewed at the Texas Maritime Museum in Rockport, Texas and will be featured in the Houston Maritime Museum later this summer. It is available for free download by Social Studies Teachers and Home School Teachers by going to www.TexasNavy.org , clicking on the Teacher’s Film Request in the main menu and completing a short form.
